It's Something Large !!

Hello all,

I went to the Old Baseball field where I found my first good find, a 1940's Bank Token. As I pulled into the lot I could see someone out there detecting already. I walked up to him and asked "Any luck today" He says sadly No.

I set my detector to All Metal mode and start my hunt. My first signal is a Good VDI of 80+ at 7' on my MXT. I dig down, and then put my pinpointer down. It goes off right away. I scoop my hand in the dirt and get a good handfull. I push the dirt around in my hand with the pinpointer. It goes off as I feel a heavy piece of metal in my hand, It's something large I think. Getting really happy now. I start to see a woman with her hair up. Its a large cent!! I shout to the other hunter "Its a large cent"!! He Say's a wheat. I say no Large, he says let me see. I hand it to him and he says cool early 1800's. I say yea, Alright shake my hand. I shake his hand and we continue to hunt and talk about where we hunt and what we have found.

He tells me that there was a One Room School House from the 1700-1800's here before the ball field. This I didn't know... The Large Cent I found is from 1834 I think. Here are some pictures hope you enjoyed.

Keep @ it and HH!!

Re: It's Something Large !!

Thanks guys,

I was not expecting a good find at all let alone this. I was hoping for maybe a silver Franklin half, but this is way cooler. I have been wondering if that could be a five, I guess it is. The guy told me in that area he dug, several IH, A V nickel and a 1850's Gold Broche. Wish I found the Broche...lol I am more than happy with my large cent.

Thanks again,
Keep the replys/posts coming,

Great find....glad it was a large cent and not what I thought you were going to say. As I was reading I was expecting you to say you'd found a buried sewer manhole ::) . 'Course you would expect that from me after 35 years in the water and sewer business. ;D

It probably is an 1854. It is a Braided Hair, bud.
