Lol the coin on the left is a real coin from the Cazador I got from a friend of mine but the other one I just found in a tiny lil tot lot sandbox of all places!!! It says copy on one side and has a date of 1776! Could it be made of real silver like the ones the Mel fisher museum sells made out of real atocha silver just made recently??

wetfly,

I suspect that one was probably made from base metals of some sort....a friend brought me about a dozen classic era US silver dollars to inspect last year.....they had a pewter, blue iron color to them and just didn't look right.....I happened to
have a magnet with me and they were magnetic.....so not even very good copies....lol.

Try the magnet test on it and see if it sticks.

Good idea!! Just checked it with a magnet and not magnetic! But you are right that it def looks a weird smoke blue color. It also has some pitting on both sides and I took a couple more pics after a quick rinse. Also appears to be a little bit thinner than the real one I have. Since this plainly says copy is there any harm in dipping it in silver cleaner to see if if will shine up like silver should?
If there's any value to it I'd hate to ruin it!

wetfly,

Definitely to thin to be the real mccoy and no harm trying to clean it up....the copy stamp probably means it's a cheap knock off for the tourist trade....silver coins have a whitish color at least on the high points even when toned......give it a shot if you wish to clean it up.

Wow bet you were bout as thrilled as me to find out that wasnt the jackpot! Just dipped it in some silver cleaner and ...... Nothing! Lol I don't have a silver test kit to test it but it def makes that different twang when handled with another silver coin but either way it'll go in the keeper box with the rest of the "could of bens" keep swinging !
