James river hunt

Been hunting the James river lately. It has bee giving up a few good artifacts. A couple heartbreakers as well. The broke narrow point in pic #5 would have been a killer. The mini ball was found in creek also.

I see in your profile you're in Missouri, so there is a James River there? I'm over here in Richmond, Virginia where the James River goes right through the city and we don't find anything like that stuff!

Yes there is it’s part of the White River system. It runs into Table rock lake. I can only imagine how many sites are under water now from the damming of the river. It has some good artifacts for sure.

Dang! All the rocks in that river have sharp angles and fractures.

It always amazes me how such a finely worked point and sharp tip can last that many years out in the elements. Great finds!

PaleIO there was only the very tip sticking out of mud bank. I do have decent eyes but color blind. The trick for me is to look far enough away from my feet. In the creeks and rivers 4-5 foot out if gravel size permits it. In plowed fields I can see them a long ways away. Creek hunting make field hunting easier for me.

I agree 100% I only look straight down in camp areas with heavy concentrations of flakes and always flip every piece of flint I see....that's why I carry a flip stick. I would say a good portion of my points are at a 6-8' distance when the catch my eye. The best is in full sun right after a rain shower. My friends and I call it glinting
