Technically all found items must be turned in to the police. You fill out a form and in 6 months if it is not claimed it is yours. Digging with permission on private land is ok. Digging on public land is ng. Beach Finds must be turned in but it is usually ignored. That said , you can have problems if you don't report finds. Or if you show everybody your finds and tell everybody what your doing while wearing an orange jumpsuit in the middle of a park.
