Very nice points larson. I really like the looks of those and the great material they are made from. I have a question though. I noticed a few of the examples have a little "tit" or protrusion that comes off the left side of the base when the tip is pointing up. I see it on the black one in your 2nd picture and on a couple others in the 1st picture. If it just occurred on one point I might not think anything of it, but since it's on more than one example it might be a trait for the type. What do you think?

Very nice examples of the trait larson. I don't have anything even remotely close to those, (I just went and looked). They had to have been chipped that way for a reason though since so many examples exist. Anybody have any clues as to why?

this might sound dumb
could it be so a maker could identify the pieces that HE made?
maybe done to keep his neighbor from swiping his points?
I have been told that my field could have had 30 earth lodges
this could have been 100 people
could have been robbers back then also
i think this might be a lame thought on my part but who knows?

Why couldn't it be an individual's mark? That makes sense to me. When did ego, and creativity, and the sense of "this is mine, I did this" start? I don't think it just happened overnight. lars has to be finding pieces made by the same individuals. Wow, there ya go, see if you can sort them out that way!

Lars, those points are absolutely beautiful!!! The subject of the points having the one hanging auricle would lead me to believe that those are knife forms of that style point. If you look at the last picture you showed to SRV with those tangs it looks like one side was made purposely long like that. Basically just giving it more of a blade edge. This is just an opinion............................GTP

Before my accident, lars, I always looked for your posts, they have always had great content and variety....could they be something like the cornertang knives here in Tx.? Good to see that you are still here and posting such great finds...Goat

I'm by no means an expert but imagine this-If the blade is hafted to a handle and the point is pushed into a animal and then pulled, it would act just like a gut hook for opening up a body cavity... Just a thought.
