I would consider it possibly priestly. BUT that kind of head gear could also be construed as sort of a beret which was also won by Spanish. So it is questionable to me exactly what class of person that was.

I was looking for this pic for other reasons..lol but it applies here.

Tom,
This is one of those things I have to take at face value.
I am having a hard time seeing a confirmation mark anywhere.

So, the face value is ... you see it.
I take your observation as reality.
I can't confirm it though.
It is a cool looking Italian shaped face,
But I am reluctant to say it is a padre.

You are finding good things.
don't be discouraged.

I found a head a little like this looking up in the air, but it's carved into a mountain. It's half the mountain--the size of a town. I've tried to photograph it before, but my photography skills are limited. I need to figure out when the best time to photograph it is (dawn, noon, sunset), and I probably need a camera with a zoom.

Nobody I talked to in this town has ever noticed a marker. Peple who have lived here their whole lives have never noticed obvious turtles.

I guess I like it that way.

Hey Tom

Don't forget that a lot of folks out your way..when they do not want to say something..they will not lie. They will just not answer the question or may say something that is truthful but does not really answer the question one way or the other.

Think carefully about the answers..and also..are you asking the right questions? Something more general may yield something different and more illuminating rather than a straight out questions as to markers. Just a thought.

I found a Jesuit trail maybe 90 minutes North of Tucson. Old Dog told me the circle with the cross was Jesuit. I don't know if this was old or new, but it looks modern.

Regardless, 25-30 minutes down the road, the road took a turn to the right. In the Valley, I saw a Jesuit carving looking right at me. I could tell by the hat.

If this is a carved marker,
It is called a mapping point.
D=5
S=22
P=19
R=21

added together they total 67.
Using your compass go the direction indicated ...(67 degrees) for more directions.

Hey, Old Dog, always pointing me in new directions.

I wish I wasn't in traffic and could have taken a picture of the Jesuit. Also, there was a nice face trailmarker on the mountainside.
