Bigkid4,
Does the outside look like it has lost layers of wood, possably by rolling loose in the water or is what we see look like it hasn't changed? Are you sure it is burn marks or could it be from cable which laced it's self around it at one time?
I do have a reason for asking.

Diverlynn they sure looked like burn marks to me. I’m sure this piece has lost a lot of wood from rolling around in the ocean. Here is a couple of more pictures and you can see that it is literally falling apart on the beach. At the time it washed up on the beach we just had several days of rough surf and I would think that it had recently been washed out of its hiding place under the sand.

I should point out that there were many framing timbers in this condition found on the first discovered Tristan de Luna wreck in Pensacola Bay. Granted they were in 13 feet of water and beneath a 2-3 layer of sand, but they are 450 years old. :o
