Since it is your first Excal, I'd suggest you start out with the Sensitivity in AUTO till you get the hang of it. Then later you can move it to near 10 or 11 o'clock. Volume all the way up, Discrimination can be set at 1, since it won't find iron anyway. You won't even need Pinpoint in the water.

Sweep a little slower than you normally would lets the circuitry work on analyzing the ground.

Thanks Sandman! Coming from a Surfmaster PI to the Excal I am really excited, the PI was just so much work for the few items of value that I found.

Sandman has it right on the money. That would be where I would set it if I were just starting out. Good luck with your Minelab. I wouldn't trade mine for anything...
