it's called a filled die error. Grease or something else was on the die during the strike. Metal failed to "fill in" the space. usually these are one of kind as the grease gets cleaned or squeezed out allowing for a proper strike. I would price that at around $20 but it depends on what the buyer is willing to pay. Nice error coin!

Agree with Dirty Digger Dude. Caused by oil/grease on the die. But coin shown also may have lamination error as well (see area between QUARTER and base of Washington).

At any rate, I would rate the missing G and T as more valuable than just missing the T. Wouldn't you like to have a US coin that clearly reads "IN OD WE RUST"? Which is why other collectors enjoy exactly this kind of error. But I think $20 for a quarter is about right.
