I am brand new to this hobby, and don't know the first thing about coins.

I bought a roll of Kennedy halves, and one coin has me perplexed.

It is clearly marked with a P, but I don't see one listed in the online coin collecting sites. Three other people agree "that it is clearly marked with a P".

I want to make sure I don't have something good before I spend it at Wendy's.

Thanks in advance!!!!!!

Thank you for the speedy reply!!!

I take that as 21 million?

This one has been well circulated.

The "P" denotes having been minted at the Philadelphia Mint. Often times people will simply refer to a Philadelphia minted coin simply by the year and skip adding the mint mark regardless of whether or not it is present.

The 5, 10, 25, and 50 Cent U.S. coins did not include the "P" mintmark on the coin until 1980 and it has appeared ever since. The $1 coin had the "P" added in 1979 and the 1 Cent has yet to have a mint mark when minted in Philadelphia.

Thank you for the replies and for the information!!!! I love learning new stuff, and appreciate the help on this coin.

You know, if I would have spent it, I would have learned later that "the 97P Kennedy half is considered the rarest of all the halves. Collectors spend lifetimes finding them." LOL, but true for some of the stuff in my life.
