Mabey it's just me but I don't see a button.
What detail makes you think it's a Confederate button?
It looks like a thumb pull to a cabinet door to me for some reason.
Where was the shank?

Funny one, GatorBoy. It's definitely a Kentucky state seal button. You'll have to check the backmark to be certain it's CW period. Not sure about the exact value but I would think at least $200 if the backmark is war period.

No..that's how inexperienced I am in Civil War period Items.
My experience in military relics takes me as far as the Second Seminole War 1835-1842
The buttons I'm used to look more like this... with nothing but musket balls around.

Oh.. its second Dragoons infantry.
Just like these... I've found a lot from that period..just not as recent as civil war.
Thank though... those are both good links
