Found this yesterday, and just wondering if anyone knows if this is a vintage keychain. The house was built in 1881. Found A 32-20 cartridge, and other relics, but wasn't sure of this one.

I remember those...keychain. Hinge that piece that has the chain attached and it should expose a small gap. Don't understand the cut area.

It may be broken there. I thought that was where the keys go on.

It is broken. You raise the cap where the chain is to open it up. Tony

It looks like the key chain part of a key chain music box from the 1970's. I found one in a box of old stuff and the chain lookdt the same.

As you can see here that chain is very commonly used on music boxes like that.

Those lift tab/toggle keychains were on lots of things, 1950's & 1960's.

The found one in this thread had a spring that kept the little "gate" piece closed. Just pushing the key against the little gate levered it down so you could slip the key on the ring; and the spring pressure closed it back into shape. Spring rusted away and it's opened out of shape a bit. 1920's to 1940's maybe?

Yeah, I remember those from my misspent youth. Think I remember having one back then, chrome plated with a rabbits foot for luck. Rabbits foot didn't last long though, as I recollect the hair sort of wore off, and bones were coming out, and it was disgusting enough that I tossed it. Vague memories, nothings certain. Why was a rabbits foot considered lucky? The rabbit ending up on a key chain wasn't very lucky for him.

Yep!! You're right. The rest of the rabbit was fried up with biscuits and gravy:laughing7:. Tony
