I was kind of suprised to find these buried about 2-3 inches down by a tree with the primers up! The sad thing is it was in a public park. Kids? Who knows.

Looks like .30-06 AP rounds. What does the headstamp (letters/numbers on the base) say? Obviously don't know a lot about the history of your area, but could have been there for decades.
