Hi all,

I couldn’t find a dedicated thread to pottery so I’m posting here. Anyone know what kind of pottery this might be and rough date? It has in script something that ends in “Sr.” which I’m guessing might be part of a maker’s mark. Also any leads on what this glass stopper might have gone with? I’m finding this stuff in area where late 1800s and early 1900s artifacts are coming out of the ground. Thanks for your help!

Not quite sure on the pottery but I find lots of this type in 1880-90 privies. The glass stopper is either from a clear whiskey or a Lea and Perrins sauce bottle. Keep on digging. You got a good spot there. Jgas.

Doesn't have the feel of the script on Fulper jugs to me, I'd expect the S to be slightly more stylized, this may be a Buffalo N.Y. piece, or from somewhere else in N.Y. state. I also think that may be "St." and not "Sr." based on the fact it's at the base of the jug, the merchant's name would be up top, I assume that's the street name based on it's location, and that the "t" was just done poorly like on the Bernhardt Bros. jug from Buffalo, but I could also be 100% wrong. I agree on the Lee & Perrins ID of the stopper...

I dug many of those glass stoppers in an old bottle dump, all were from Lea & Perrins bottles. Found some bottles with the stopper still in them

my lea and perrins are embossed with that. your stopper could be from any sauce bottle or some meds too. I have found many, some purple, some aqua, some clear. originally they would have had a cork sleeve around the the interior part for a tight fit.
