Was back on the field of growing sugarbeet for a session of detecting, only found 1 coin at all and that not untill l was on the last row on my way back to my car. l could see it was a hammered coin and was not like the usual ones that turn up, and it also had a chunk out of it too. on getting home l tried to identify it from my books and after a search l found that it was from the 12th century. and that most of the coinage of that time was in a poor state. This one is no better and is attributed to King Stephen.

You gotta admit, it's in pretty good shape for being more than 800 years old! I think it's an awesome find!! :thumbsup:

Yes, the typical poor strike & most will not realise quite how very rare this find is. I think we only have 1 Stephen coin.
