Large copper coin- need identification

Found this large copper and the 1935 Mercury dime on the surface next to a river here in Northern New Jersey. Can make a figure of a man, facing right. See some writing,but cannot read it. The back is toasted worse than the front.Included caliper diameters in inches and metric. The coin is much thinner than a large cent. Maybe someone on here has an idea ? Hi Fred, Surface finds? Wow! Hard to tell what it is from your pics. Try to zoom in with you phone a bit back so the coin almost fills the screen and re-post the pics. There's enough detail on the obverse that someone here will be able to ID it. Very nice finds!!

That's the bust of George III, so most likely a British halfpenny Circa. 1770-1775.
