This site probably isnt much help but it is an interesting read on Crotal Bells from the UK
http://www.ukdfd.co.uk/pages/crotal-bells.html

I'll keep looking for more info. I know a lot of these bells have been posted here before so someone may come along with the info your looking for.

**Edit

I came across this info... Are you sure it's C.A.W. and not G.A.& W.?
http://classicbells.com/info/BellDesign/Petal/Petal.htm

Bell with maker's mark "G. A. & W." made by Goff, Abell & Williams, East Hampton, Connecticut. Note the ring of delicate dots between the two center circles. 2 inch diameter. Two holes in the base. U-shaped shank. Ca. 1810-1850.

From the patina and the style it looks georgian, but if the bell was made in 2 sections I'm not sure. Every crotal bell iv'e found as always been cast in one piece. The bell would have been very big when complete, unless you have very small hands. Where did you find it.

Robert.

TeddyB1967 - I checked that site, good site but doesn't list the M.Mark. Thanks

robfinds - It's a single cast bell. About as big as a tennis ball. Found it near a farm dating to around 1820-40's.

TeddyB1967- I think your right on about the maker. Although this bell is definatly over 2 inches? Anyway, it one of the oldest things I have found to date other than arrowheads & fossils...... It should date about 1810-1850 like you faound and that works with the dates of the farms in my area. Thanks!

Thanks- rodgerdodger
