Large Hollow Clay Balls

Well, I am stumped. Found these over the weekend and have seen way too many balls that don't fit.

They are approx. 5.50" dia/ 14" circumference.

Hollow with a small hole
Looks like there is a coating on a light flesh colored clay.

Any clues?

First, are you certain they're made of clay and they are not gourds?

In either case, have seen many such items used in dried flower arrangements - the hole would be for a 1/4" dowel rod.

...That's my guess anyhow.

Definitely clay

Never thought of Native canteens and just checked them out. They are beautiful.
I should be so lucky lol
Hole in this too small for drinking.
