It was a fairly nice afternoon here today, almost 30 degrees, and it being the last day of February (Steve's birthday too) I went lookin' for a bit. I said it many times before about the site we hunt - "You always something and more often than not, it's something nice and/or unusual." This is what I picked up today.

A couple of broken points (something) - KRF scraper w/spurs, white petrified wood blade and small shell bead (nice) - shaped bone piece (unusual). Steve has posted some photos a while back of bone pieces he has in the various stages of being made a fish hook - I think the bone piece is a fish hook in process. ??

Not Too Bad! At least you were successful. Went out for a couple hours, but didn't find a thing. Too much snow in all the likely spots. That one thumb scraper is a dandy. :icon_thumright:

You always show nice things from the site. I bet you have a lot of beads. I would guess fish hook to but I am a rookie on bone. Good hunt I know it is nice to get out. You all having a birthday party for Steve?

You must of been wearing Old Diggers lucky ring when you were hunting. 30 degrees and still went. 50 tomorrow here.

LOL - and actually I haven't ever had to resort to trying to thaw the ground to get out a find. When we are lucky enough to get out in the winter, the pieces we find are all surface finds. Even when the temps here are below freezing, if we've had some above freezing temps, the snow has melted away and the ground is not wet, the top inch or so is loose dirt.
I think with your technique we'd just end up with yellow ice.
