Re: last night's box O halves

could you do a new guy a favor ???

explain why these have some value... ???

(10) 2003-P
(1) 2006-P (really dirty)
(1) 2010-P
(1) 2011-D (my first 2011)
and a 82 "no FG"

I know that pre 64 is silver, 64-69 is 40% silver, that if it's got an S mark on it it's likely from a proof set. but I thought -P were just phila mint... being new I don't want to mess up and miss a good coin, so if you could enlighten me on this one... :dontknow:

Kennedy half dollars made from 2002-present are not intended for circulation (NIFC). They are made for collector sets. I personally don't keep them. 50% of the coins I get in boxes are NIFC. For the most part, they aren't particularly valuable.

As for the 82 FG, that's an error coin. The initials FG are on the back of the coin in most cases. Depending on condition, the coin is probably worth ~$5-6 IIRC. There are quite a few different errors you could look for.

pre '64 is indeed 90% silver.
1964 is also 90% silver.
1965-1970 are 40% silver (1970 was only minted for mint sets).
