Late 1700's early 1800's button...ID help please

My son and I are working an old farm with Revolutionary War, and Civil War history. Found this button today, it is in three parts.....the front dome shape, the backing with shank and what looks like cotton wadding. The strange part, is the front of the button has a raised, Badger, weasel, otter (?)
Any help with an ID would be appreciated, as I don't want to destroy an incredibly rare and valuable relic :laughing7:

I doubt very much that it's Rev War era. Probably a sportsman's button--they usually featured various animals. From second half of the 19th century. The back mark should help you nail down the date.

Def a sportsman button and a later one at that so more like mid to late 1800s than Rev War.
