I was thinking maybe it would be a good Idea for us to do a layaway plan for people that want detectors and can't afford them right off.
I would charge no interest and no catches.
When I was a kid I loved to fish and always wanted a good fishing rod but couldn't afford one.
I met an ole timer who built them. I mean Good ones. I stressed to him while visiting his shop one day, "maan, I would love to have one of those"
He built me a rod and let me make payments. When I paid it off he presented me with my custom steelhead fishing rod. I'll never forget that.

Maybe I could help people someone out like this.

what do you think?

Good Idea? :dontknow:

Sounds like a great idea 4-H. Seems asthough it would tie up some money if you had some high end units sitting on layaway. But its great if you can do it.

You could have a waiting list. Take down the names of the people, and receive payments on say up to three member layaways at a time. And keep the others on a waiting list, as soon as one person has theres payed off move the next person in line up the list to start receing payments on a lay-o-way. And you would need a few rules.

A few examples.

1. Agree to pay weekly, or Monthly.
2. Lay-o-ways need to be payed in 3-6 months.
3. Only one item at a time.
4. Nothing over $1500.00 in value, or less.
5. Must have some form of income.
6. Over 16 years of age, with parents permision.
7. Regular participant , and good standing member of T-net.

When I was about 14 I bought a $350 Stereo that way, and at 24 a $500 watch. If it wasn't for a payment plan I probably wouldn't have been able to get either. The watch was a super deal so glad I had that choice because it would have sold before I would have been able to save the extra. (I walked in with $250)

So I can't see why detectors wouldn't be a good idea.

I think that is a great idea as well. Some people cannot drop the big chunk all at once. I I would be interested to hear how it is going after a month or two. :icon_thumright:

That's actually how I was able to purchase my new detector that I got a few weeks back (Minelab Explorer XS)... the guy said it was alright if I wanted to break down the cost of the $800 into $200 payments each month. I actually ended up sending him two $300 payments, then a $200 payment for the last one. It really helped out alot, because I still had my other bills & such to pay for. It would definitely help when it comes to machines that are a little more expensive like that...

Kelly Co offers a financing option to make bi-weekly payments. This is great for people who want the CTX or Excal.

Back in the 60's and maybe into the 70's, you could order directly from White's and they would do a layaway. That $250 Goldmaster in 1968 would cost $1800 today, so the need is still there if you want a high-end model.
