Hello, I found this metal detecting on the north shore of Long Island NY. About 6“ down. Rang up as bullet lead. Looks like an effigy ? Long Island had 13 ? Tribes noted in the 1600’s. This lead item might be from the Narragansett. They were in southern Connecticut as well as the north shore of Long Island. Seems to be something .. one side is crude, one is carved? As I read up on effigies they cold hammered them or cast lead into these. I am only repeating what I read online. I did contact museums and did not hear back yet. Any help or thoughts. Thank you

You’re right. We want to see something special or have someone tell us it is ! Oh well, it will go into the showcase for the heck of it. Thanks. John

If it isn't one, I would have to be creative and make one out of it. That would be cute sitting on a small chunk of a log.

I’ve found a lot of melted lead over the past 4 years. None would come close to this. The horizontal lines, depending on which way you view it, threw me off too . I will place it in my display cabinet regardless. Thank you. John

Horizontal lines simply could be where the lead melted on a surface that had lines ... I mean .. it could be something, but looking at the pictures, it seems more random than machine made... just opinion... and very crude, if hand made for something ..

It's melted lead and the "effegy" is caused by what is called pareidolia.

To me it looks like a dog. Maybe it was a lead dog toy that got smashed. You know like there were lead soilders. Not necessarily an effigy or pareidolia, but an old toy.

Google antique lead dog toy. Maybe you can find a match. I think it was hollow. Like how the tin toys were.
