Let it never be said

You guys are amazing and remind me of my father. He ran the last productive silver mine in the Mojave Deserts decades ago and was a digger at heart. He published this poem in Desert Magazine in honor of his fellow treasure hunters -

Let it never be said that the sourdough is dead
Only the skeptics have bid him farewell
Rewards from the mine are but a matter of time
But the earth weeps from the sweat of his toil
It's down in the dark where a miner makes his mark
Where adventures and fortune are waiting
Treasures of the deep are fast asleep
Waiting for him to awaken them

I'm Donnita, his proud daughter and it's the 20th anniversary of his death.

That is a very nice poem that your grandfather wrote and it almost took me back there to those days and the mines. He had the fever just like those of us on here that are ALWAYS out digging and looking for "Treasure." He seems like he wouldve been an awesome man to know and one of the many good ones that have left us. THANK YOU, for sharing the poem with ME!!!

Wish I could have went treasure hunting with him. I'm sure he would have had a lot of stories that would have been great to listen
