Found this Putt & Mason token in a yard on 5-5-15 about a mile from where the store was in Big Island, Virginia. I don't know why the names were reversed, maybe Putt had the token made.

Maybe the title of the picture is wrong (reversed).
Don,....

I think you are right.
All I had ever heard was Putt & Mason. I knew what I had when I dug it.
About 35 years ago at work I was told about the P&M tokens by a guy that would be close to 100 now if he was alive.

See if he, as coming from Big Island, can add to the history of your token:

Robert and I went to school together. Also we are FB friends.
The book "Around The Bend" has some good history on the subject.

That is a INGLES Systems token! They kept great records of ALL the tokens they made. I'm not sure who you can contact about looking them up. I bet someone here can tho.

The Ingles System started in 1909;originally, using script.
The date you see may be the patent date for this style of token.
For example:

I believe Mason was the one who ordered the sign and Putt made the decision on the token, Thus they had their name 1st. Maybe a get even on Putt's part...:dontknow:

Nice thread and posts, like sitting in a history class.:notworthy:

Per the shipping records of the Ingle company, order #2306 for tokens (the 5¢ denomination is also known) was shipped in 1915 to Putt & Mason at Big Island in 1915. Would you be willing to have your pics of that token posted to tokencatalog.com?

That would be fine with me. You guys really get into tokens.
I have pics of a couple more that I dug in 2013 I will post.
You want me to take pics of the P&M token like they are displayed on tokencatalog.com and PM them to you?
