Look at the AT Pro. Easy to use in standard modes, but a great machine once you move up to the Pro (proportional) modes with it's proportional audio response. Get a 5x8 coil to go with it and you'll be good to go for the long term....

I'm very happy with my 250 but will likely upgrade to the AT Pro in a few years. The Pro will likely be a more accurate/stronger MD plus it will be waterproof when I do make it to the beach.

If you can invest some more $$, the At Pro is a great choice - waterproof, ground balance capabilites, adjustable iron discrimination, etc. It's deeper than the Ace series. The Ace 350 is another option, the 8.5X11 DD coil gives you a little more depth and better target separation.

I found more than enough gold and silver to pay for my ACE 250 the first year that I bought/used it. I have upgraded twice since but I'll never get rid of it. It's a great machine to let a buddy use if you take them out for the first time
