I just purchased my first metal detector and need help finding a fun place to take the kids. We live in the Melissa area and have hit a few fields and the old train depot. So far we have found nothing but trash, marbles (who would have thunk it?!), and a hot wheels car.

They are starting to get discouraged but I don't want to lose their interest in dectecting. Finding old coin or rings would be nice but not necessary. My boys are 8-14 and love history. Any ideas on a good place to go?

Thanks!
Tatum :)

Hello Tater_tots,

I live in the Richardson area and may be able to assist you some.

Have you checked the local parks and tot-lots? Those are good locations and another good spot is up at Lavon Lake. You'll need to get a permit from the Corps of Engineers, but you can do it over the phone if you have a fax machine.

Melissa is an OLD town and I would bet that many of the old houses there would be available to hunt on if you ask.

Also, what type of MD did you buy?

Drop me a PM for more info or if I can be of assistance.

Grip
