Re: Please help me identify, may be civil war

Hi terror,
It doesn't look CWish, most likely WWII or up. Could be a pin that was used on the collar or lapel. If a button could be standard button for class A uniforms.... Still a Cooool find

Re: Please help me identify, may be civil war

It appears to be a U.S. Army "Great Seal" general service button, c. 1902-present.

If it is larger than a button and has a buckle-like loop on the back, then it is a WWI period U.S. Cavalry bridle rosette.

Or, if there is a screw-post on the back, then it is a U.S. Army enlisted man's cap badge.

All three utilize the same "Great Seal" design.

In any case, it's post-1900... but still a neat find!

That's the size of a coat button. A bridle rosette or cap badge would be much larger.

I have a Bridle Rosette with the same emblem on it. I was told it was WWI cavalry and it has the loop on the back. Size is about that of a Silver Dollar.

Pretty Standard for me lol, I am very very happy with the find but I do have to mention that I dont know much about military artifacts and Civil War just jumped into my mind right away from all the posts I read. I also find a 1916 key date merc dime last weekend and get home to realize it and turn it over to find the absence of the D mint mark. Im on the verge of something huge! Stay Tuned!

The era depends on the backmark. These are all post 1902 but still made to this day. I hope he can read the backmark if he wants to ID it. Good chance its WWI by the condition...
