lost in the early 1900's - Metal Purse with coins

I was out scuba diving, approx. 30 feet deep on the side of a drop off. Got a huge hit, water was murky - grabbed it and stuck it in my carry net. Had no clue what it was until I got home. A metal purse with exactly $1.00 in change. Also 1 button and a 1 ore Danmark - So, I am thinking the lady is from Denmark and she was out for a boat ride with some dude that was trying to win her affection. He was showiing off and tipped the boat over. I would love to know the real story!!!! Newest coin is a wheaty 1911.

Your purse might be stainless steel. Is it magnetic? A very nice piece of history in any case! Congratulations! :hello2: :occasion14:

In the decades from 1890 - 1920 These mesh purses were all the rage - and they were commonly made from sterling silver !

Well - I just found out that the purse is not magnetic - That's a good sign. I'll look more into it tomorrow as I'm crazy busy tonight - Let you know what I find out.

Great recovery, TRF. It would be great to find that the purse was made of silver, please keep us posted.
The underwater sand is fantastic for preserving items, I dove on a fishing schooner in New England that sank in the early to mid 1700s and was covered by sand. When we faned the sand away we actually found dried fish tails and fish bones that had been preserved by the sand for over 250 years. We also found pieces to the oak barrels that held the dried fish and they were in perfect condition as well as a jaw bone from a pig that must have been on board at the time of her sinking.
