I had a good feeling about this hunt. I’d told JimmyZZZ I was going for some jewelry. I was hunting a little spot where I found a gorgeous sterling and topaz ring a few weeks ago. So I’m going low and slow, digging a lot of gold type IDs, but no luck. I swing by an old pinion tree and get a screaming 33-34. I’m thinking soda can or some other crap. I flipped the plug and out pops a big coin with a massive reeded edge. I couldn’t believe my eyes! It was a 1964 JFK half dollar in a silver bezel! It was my first half dollar, let alone a 90% silver half! That definitely sets the bar for the year! Thanks for looking and GL&HH! FAN HALF TASTIC! Nice find!

I believe another was posted maybe a year ago...same coin and in a bezel, but I believe the bezel was just plated.

I've never found a 64 Kennedy detecting. Just a couple of 67s. Nice going! That's a hard coin to find.

I have a 1957-D half that I found roll hunting in one of those bezels,as a matter of fact,i'm wearing it as I type. The reason it read such a low tone is probably because the bezel itself I believe is not silver. Just a kind of plated cheap metal. Still A great half dollar find though,as the largest silver I have found was just a 1936 quarter. Happy hunting!

Thanks everyone! This find is really special to me because I was born in 1964 and I absolutely love finding coins from 1964. All I need now is a 1964 Washington quarter and I will be very happy. Some day...maybe in a Coin Star machine, maybe in the dirt! Be sure to keep sending out those good vibes and have a great time with this hobby and don't be snobby! GL&HH!

The fact that you’re pulling Silver halves out of the ground, leaves no doubt in my mind that a 1964 quarter is in your future

Congrats! My only half is a 1971 - not silver. It was still fun to find, but nowhere near as nice or special as yours. Happy hunting.
