Love token from the field

I got out for a hunt yesterday to a harvested soybean field, former home site. I've been overdue for something good so was determined to hunt until I found something that made me really happy. (found my first Canadian LC at this site last year in the corn stubble) Started out with a nice rein terret that made me happy.

Next a couple buttons, still just happy.

After a few hours got a good signal and popped out a silver disc that didn't look like a coin. Gently removing some dirt, I could make out an initial on it with a decorative border. It reminded me of a love token but it still looked like a button since it didn't appear flat enough. :icon_scratch: On the reverse I eventually cleaned it enough to see Lady Liberty sitting down. My first love token...now I was extremely happy! :headbang: This one wasn't even on the wish list yet, maybe the "dream list." The quarter is an 1856 and it appears the token was once part of a locket or brooch. It's had a few hits from the plow but I'm not complaining.

Gotta love those fields. :happy3:

HH and thanks for looking,
Michiganne
p.s. Included a pic from a previous hunt a week earlier at the same field, different site. Found my first clay marble which I thought was cool. :)

Awesome, love tokens are just too cool. Nice finds. I hope you get a few more in before winter sets in on the Midwest.

I am planning on it until the ground freezes. The ground in the woods can stay unfrozen longer under the leaves....another option. :icon_thumleft:

Very nice find there Anne! I found my first love token too in England (on vacation) this summer, but theirs are typically made of two coins bent together in a sort of Z-shape by a blacksmith. I'd seen them before, but was quite happy when I found it. I've yet to find an American one like yours. I love the hand engraving on them. From your other finds it looks like you're in a pretty good field there! Congrats!

Also glad to see you're swinging an SE! :icon_thumleft:

Best, Erik

Great Finds! That field is giving up some awesome coins and relics! The love token is an incredible find because it was so personal for someone to have made! Congrats on a one of a kind find! :icon_thumright:
