Really cool! I love anything hematite. I don't think I've ever seen a double bitted celt like that. Great find.

You should offer him 20 bucks.

If your "friend" just found that today and does not want to do anything but sell it... it can't mean that much to him. Does he hunt for artifacts to sell?.... your friend?

He doesnt hunt at all. It was a lucky find, but i love artifacts and thought it to be a really good one,so his ears are perked.

I have seen Celts perfect that only bring $50 so $20 would be a fair price. Its got some nice color bit there is damage on it which brings down the value quite a bit. It would look good in a frame though. In your collection

Asking and getting is different. You could ask anything you want.

That's a nice find for sure. Would have made the display case here. Congratulations to your friend.

I'm sure it also depends on how knowledgeable the person doing the asking is.. and who they're trying to sell to. ... you can find some ridiculously good deals in antique stores sometimes because the people really just don't know much about rocks. And often use things like eBay as a benchmark for pricing.... ooohhh ..nooooo!

I think banding in hematite (correct me if im wrong) means that it formed during the Precambrian age which makes it older than normal hematite, and among the oldest rock in the world....the bands were due to oxygen being released by the first oxygen-producing organisms to inhabit the earth called stromatolites, which were blobs of algae, which "layered" overtop the normally iron rich layers of the rock

Oh yeah, and cool find 😎
