Hi Dan,

Spooky is right. Any place where there is a historic marker is off limits. An area such as Mackinac will definitely be under protection. I say hit the place for some great history and awesome pictures and travel out of town and find some smaller towns on the coast somewhere. There should be plenty of areas on Lake Superior's coast. Be aware of coastal ship wreck sites as well. Michigan is extremely protective of its ship wrecks. Have fun and make sure you post all your goodies! :headbang:

Off limits there. Check out this site swmss.org
There you will find a link to the DNR site so you can see what places are off limits, restricted, and ok to detect.

The guys are right about much of the area being off limits to detect.

Keep in mind that St. Ignace was really the first place settled in Michigan. There is a great deal of private property on that side of the bridge, and some of that is open. Much of it is private, but permission seems to come pretty easy.

Good Luck,
Mark
