I believe it would take quite a large and strong magnet attached to some really strong line to haul in most of the larger cannonballs. Individual Grape Shot would not be a big problem but large solid shot cannonballs would be nearly impossible to break from the mud bottoms of rivers and then get them across the river to you.

In any event, the one pictured should work fine!

If there is a mud bottom, won't be possible, with rock, should work.

I just bought this one a couple weeks ago, I've had it out once so far and got a rod and reel, an arrow and a big thing made of rebar, from a mud bottom bayou, I could feel it grabbing at things but there just wasn't enough grip to pull them out of the mud.... I'm thinking about ways to make some sort of plow type thing to help knock them loose before the magnet gets to them....
