I would think the carbon fiber tube would flex to much. On the sealing of the cover, don't do it. If a small gap occures the black sand will find a way in. Then it's a bear to get the cover off to rinse out the cover. Much easier to put up with having to clean out the cover once in awhile. Sorta like we have to put up with raking the leaves out of the house once in awhile.

Excalibur,
as for the coil, epoxy it only way to go, if it starts to wear down just give it another coat.

What is the advantage of the epoxy vs the coil cover?

The only advantage to using the epoxy is there is no gap for black sand to get inside the cover as there is no cover and the coil is still protected from abrasion. It's a very good idea I think.

Thanks, I picked up 2 tubes of it last night and will do my WOT one day this week.

Can't wait to take the SOV and WOT for a "Stroll" down the beach again. ;D

Another tip I've used for putting on the epoxy... get a roll of masking tape, and tape a crisp line just below the top of the coil on its side (or whereever you want the epoxy to end. paint on the epoxy, and then, before it is dry, peel off the tape. You'll be left with a crisp line... looks professional.

Thanks Steve for the info. I will use the tape so it looks nice when I'm finished. Looking forward to taking "Cal and Vern" (Excal and Sov) for another one of their beach walks this weekend.
