Looks like I may have found a nice Mano over the weekend. I'll try to post some insitu's next time I am out. You can see one side is ground down and has a brighter appearance then the other and is nicely shaped with some pecking still visible. You can see the difference in color from the side view. It is a decent grade sandstone.

Also I found this what could be a pendant about a year and a half or so ago and it seems like it has some obvious incised, etched markings. It also has a groove that doesn't look very well made but from the side view it looks more prominent as well as being very well polished piece.

I think you may be right about the mano, but I don’t know about the second piece.

What is the material on the second piece?

If it’s a soapstone then maybe it’s a salvaged something. Not sure about pendant, given the weight I wouldn’t want something like that bouncing around near my face if I had to run.

Soapstone/steatite will often feel waxy.

Thanks for taking a look Josh. I think you may have taught me something I always have read about soapstone and always wondered if id come across any and after reading your reply I went and took a look at some black soapstones with etchings online and they seem to match the look of the piece I showed and several pieces I have found on the same creek bank that have what look like man made etchings and all have a waxy feel. I'll take some pics with the other finds. If this is soapstone that's pretty cool and another non native material that I have found. Thanks again!!!
