I actually went detecting by the moonlight last night. It was still warm here on Martha's Vineyard, and with the moonlight you could see most of the field without the use of a flashlight. I detected for a little more than 2 hours and found my second Mass Cent this year. It's not in as good condition as the one I found earlier this year but any state penny is a cool find !! I also found an 1863 indian head ~ his face seems to be missing and an assortment of other buckles. I hope to get back to this field before the ground freezes me out for the winter.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow gave the lustre of mid-day to relics below. ..

Sounds like a fun hunt! Lots of goodies to show for your efforts, too!

Nice MA cent! I've always wanted to go on a ni g ht hunt.

!! cool coin!! I love T.H.ing at night--the field at the end of my road was a ball field back in the 40's/50's. I would bike over and hunt on warm summer eves and watch the thunderstorms roll over the Finger Lakes till it started drizzling then head home. I've dug more then 70 dimes! a few buff's/quarters, lots of pennies and my first arrow head!-( not all at night)---- I'll try to head out this eve-- if it don't snow!!

Thanks ~ I've hunted at night before with little results, so I was pleased to find the Mass penny, would have been great if the arrows were in the other talion !! ha ha . I have a half dozen fields I will eventually hunt at night here on the Vineyard. They are fields that I have gained permission to hunt but have live stock on during the day , mostly grazing horses that are barn'd at night. Filling holes properly becomes very important to the owners and the critters that graze there. In our hobby there is also the , sometimes ?, presumption that night hunting is related to trespassing, I have had a few people happen about me at night and ask ? what on earth are you doing here at this hour ?? With short days I plan to do alot more ," in the dark" hunting this year or until the frost sets in ??

Back in the winter of mid 90's, after a day working construction on the Cape, I would hit the low tide beaches after dark. The only place I found in the north lands to T.H. when every thing else is froze up. they were some really great (and freezing cold) hunts. I long to get back there--- some day-- or some night---da Prof
