Today at the soccer field I found a lot of clad, then this rang up like a pulltab on the F5. Looks like gold and ruby.
Can't read the inside as the ring is small, (and old eyes and no magnifying glass) so am going to take it to be tested. Wish me luck, I hope I finally got some gold this year.
The sides looked too sharp.. I've been hopeful a few times like that myself. One of the first things I'll do is put that sucker on the high speed drill buffer and polish the gold. if the "gold" wears away, instead of polishing, it's a dead give-away. I even had one stamped 14K, that was nothing more than HGE. THAT was a bummer...
Don't trust markings either. The amount of fake 14kt marked items is amazing. About 25% of rings and 95% of 14kt gold chains I dig turn out to be fake. I bet there are a lot on this forum who have gold in lock boxes that did not acid check them that are fake. It really sucks.
Well it was good while it lasted, one of those nitro moments.
Two ways of looking at this, you could invest in buying a good magnifying glass and kill the thought of finding the real gold right away-or just stay half blind and have that happy feeling for a few hrs/days until you get it tested.
