due to the size of the stone in this ring, my vote is that it is a cz. but I wanted to point out that a lot of sterling rings being sold now do in fact have genuine diamonds, although usually poor quality stones. with the price of gold driving up the price of gold jewelry, sterling jewelry is gaining popularity mainly because it is affordable. personally, I think sterling is a poor choice for ring material. it looks nice until you wear it a short while. it is very soft and scratches and dings easily, as well as the fact that it tarnishes quickly. I sure like finding them with my detector but I would never buy the stuff my self. so anyway, I just wanted to say that if you find a sterling ring with stones, there is a good chance that the stones are real.

most cz rings will be marked/stamped 'cz' somewhere inside the band. but of course, if the ring has been sized before, the marking could have got sanded away or flooded with solder. I see cz rings that have been heavily worn and the stone will show signs of wear on the corners of the facets or scratches. a new cz will generally look so flawless that a look over with a magnifying glass will reveal that there are absolutely no inclusions or specks of carbon that are commonly found in diamonds
