Membership in Bloomberg's anti-gun group was kiss of death

Former mayors discover membership in Bloomberg’s anti-gun group was kiss of death.

Join Michael Bloomberg’s nutty Mayors Against Illegal Guns at your own risk.

That’s the theme of “Unmasking Bloomberg’s Mayors,” Ginny Simone’s latest “NRA Special Report,” and a lesson learned by incumbent Lakeland, Fla., Mayor Gow Fields.

Contrary to the organization’s name, Mayors Against Illegal Guns has less to do with getting illegal guns off the streets than it does making legal guns illegal.

Lakeland City Commissioner Howard Wiggs defeated Fields by a wide margin last month. He credits his success in part to the incumbent mayor’s membership in the anti-gun group co-founded by New York City Mayor Bloomberg, according to NRA News.

Fields wasn’t alone. He was one of nearly two dozen members of Mayors Against Illegal Guns who lost their re-election bid.

That article is an attempt to prove a point by taking a single number and presenting it with no context. Numbers have meaning only in relation to one or more other numbers.

Two dozen members lost? How many members of that organization ran for re-election and won? In the USA, what's the average winning percentage for mayors running for re-election? Of these two dozen who lost, their defeats were entirely due to joining one group (the "kiss of death")?.

There was another article posted here recently claiming a direct relationship between crime and gun ownership rates, with no accounting for any other factors or influences. Counting on a single variable rarely produces an accurate result.

Good luck to all,

Look it up yourself, it doesn't matter to us, the fact is 2 dozen mayors who were betraying their oath of office and our Constitution lost their jobs...

That is a victory for us. Vote out all traitors...

Our crime rate in Florida has dropped 1/3 in first 4 years after new CWL law was passed.

"Firearm-related violent crimes in Florida have dropped by one-third in just four years, 2007 to 2011, while concealed carry permits jumped by 90 percent in that period, further, violent crime of any kind dropped almost as much, 26 percent."

Correct.

TH cited an article, and its conclusions.

OB mad a claim that the article is not true.

That means that, according to YOUR LOGIC, it is up to OB to back up his claim.

Any questions?

There are over 19,000 municipalities in the United States. What was that number? Two dozen?

The numbers speak for themselves.

Congratulations on a hard fought victory!!!!

There are about 1,000 mayors who belong to that organization. Let's say 80% run for re-election: 800. Average term is 4 years - so, 200 would run each year (probably more in the even numbered years and even more every 4 years, but we're estimating here).

So, out of those 200, 24 lost. The opponent of one stated membership in this organization was "largely responsible" for his winning. Did the remaining 176 members win? That's just one fact the article left out.

Hardly the "Kiss of Death." More like the "Hickey of Hurt."

Good luck to all,

Then post the mayors that have won re-election?

Fact is every mayor on that list that loses re-election is another win for our Rights and Constitution and one less traitor to our Constitution in office....

Sir you are thinking of the SAR. DAR is the womens branch. Of course that was probably another one of your snide "hidden" insults.. See below... If you're going to throw insults at us at least get your facts straight. So MY ancestors are traitors ? No wonder you act the way you do. You feel the good men who wrote the constitution of this country are traitors... That blows my mind but explains ALOT. If you hate this country and all it stands for so much, then comrade, maybe you should LEAVE ! No wonder you and your kind are so intent on destroying it. I commend you for being the only one to admit it. And while you're throwing insults that are clearly directed at me aren't you one of the guys crying to the mods that I'm "picking on you" ? Make up your mind man. You want to scrap we can scrap, you want to be a victim then stop hiding and throwing sucker punches.

Bottom line is that the folks who jumped on the Bloomberg Band Wagon just are learning some hard facts of life AND politics and will obviously continue to do so. Thanks TH for posting that...

Got it and agree. This is nothing more than the NRA pumping it's chest to enrich it's coffers. It uses money to wield influence on the Hill. It raises money by publishing faux facts like this that any Jr high School debating team could tear to shreds. Like publishing blank statistics. It realizes that it's core audience hasn't thought that out and more importantly, doesn't care. So anything goes!

For the NRA stats to have any meaning an in depth analysis of every race run by every candidate on The Bloomberg list should accompany the article. Yet it doesn't. How many mayors on the list were up for reelection? How many won their elections? How many of the races did the NRA's opposition actually influence? Were other factors in play? And of course, it all matters!

The NRA's purpose is to rally the troops and make that check payable to the NRA ( no need to spell it out)

One look at this thread, i'd say the did a great job!

NF, ol' bloomers still tells those that are dumb enough to listen that an AR15 will fire 100 rounds with a single trigger pull. Should someone that ignorant about a subject have a position or use their millions of dollars to promote their position and spread that ignorance to the flock?
