Hello everyone, I am posting keeper finds from Sunday and today.

Sunday hunting the woods The targets were far and few between but I managed to come up with a very toasted 1904 Indianhead penny, and a nice flat button, still with the gold plating on the back.

The button reads, Double Gilt 2nd Quality. From what I've read double gilt means double plated.

Todays keepers were far and few between finding two fired musketballs, a neat, I'm guessing buckle of some sort shaped like a D, it doesn't appear to be broken like a piece is missing, and it was pretty deep like 12+ inches. Mercury dime 1935. The Mercury dime was not far from a tree and for some reason it has a hard gray crust on it, I've encountered this before, I think I need to take notice to what type of tree it is.

I can't seem to figure out a way to clean this gray crust off, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Enjoy the photos and happy hunting.

You pulled some nice keepers in the last 2 hunts. I wonder if the grey crust could be from calcium?

You did well. Not sure on what would be best to clean your sliver merc. If no value other than weight you won't hurt it. Like it as is myself. You might try some alum jelly and a q tip.
Nice hunt.

You found the things I like most...old lead, button and silver! Quantity can't replace quality.

Nice finds! Sometimes I find the gray crusty ones in areas that had forest fires.
