Wilcome.PNG Unless it is posted its OK. Don't ask if its ok as someone will just say no. You don't ask if it's ok to play ball or toss a Frisbee. You can detect in all the Oakland County Oak Parks year round. Just don't dig holes or cut plugs. I started a permit system so the managers can tell ya if any area is off limits because of new grass. Permits are free an most times they don't want to be bothered with them. Water hunting is definitely NOT ALLOWED except for beach cleaners and they sift the sand for trash.

You can hunt in all the Metro Parks after Labor Day till Memorial Day. Some times a permit is needed. State
parks are iffy as some are open, some have restrictions, and some are closed. You can check these on the DNR's website. Funny as mostly you can only detect parking lots which are paved. :icon_scratch:???

Good Luck.:hello:

Thanks for your reply. Seams like everywhere we go there is nothing posted saying metal detecting is permitted or not.

If it isn't posted its ok. Places don't say ball playing is permitted or not. They don't say anything about picnics, Frisbees, bird watching, sitting on the grass, why should metal detecting be any different? It's the digging of holes, causing damage, not packing out your trash, etc.

When you say, "don't dig holes or cut plugs", then obviously a Lesche is out of the question... Surface finds or using a screw driver are your only choices? Thanks.

I can tell you one place not to go is Yale, MI. Possibly about 20 miles north of Macomb County. Went there last summer and had some guy come up to me ranting and raving about all the signs posted on NO TYPE OF METAL DETECTION DEVICES AUTHORIZED. Needless to say, I ditched out of there. Just seems as if it's getting harder and harder to detect inner townships where they were actually developed knowing that's where all the good treasure might possibly be. Happy hunting, and good luck!
