Metal detecting mentor in San Fernando valley

I bought a metal detector couple month ago and still have not used because I do not know where to go and am also not sure how to do it.
I wanted to do that since I was a kid and I am looking for someone willing to go metal detecting with me. I live in the San fernando valley around woodland hills.
