I'll take a fairly wild guess - Sillimanite? It seems like the quartz shooting up in fluid would adhere to the rock differently and fill more gaps etc and this looks more like a crystal that grew in a cave or similar environment to me. I don't know how Sillimanite forms so I could be wrong about it growing or the guess I just think this looks very "greasy" for quartz.
Possibly the reason the other gentleman asked about location is if you know the county you obtained the sample in and go to mindat.com you can usually ID what you've found with a little work from there. Without a starting point of location unless you are a geo wizard a weathered rock like this one can be really hard to ID from a picture so the databases are very useful. The metallic part I have no idea about but looks interesting!
