Re: MIA Bracelet "Hobo 27"

Looks like its a dead end on the MIA website. I have other resources though.

On the MDing on base. The Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979 ( http://www.fws.gov/fire/ifcc/esr/Po...ological_Resources_Protection_Act_of_1979.pdf) does not cover coins. It has to be a "archaeological resource".

I have had MP's inform me about rings lost at the beach. Plus no one can find a base order on it. I have MD'ed the old PX site and general parking lot at Onslow Beach, under the bleachers at the Liveredge Field running track and the baseball field dugouts on WPT Field. So if all I am looking for is coins, I see no harm..

Cool find...always thought it would be neat to find a name on a piece of history that could be returned to the family to which it belongs. Hope you get a contact.

Re: MIA Bracelet "Hobo 27"

I am hitting the geneology websites. If he had any children they would be a few years old than me. In reality hi grandchildren and even great grandchildren would be out there somewhere. I will keep you all posted. I have returned items found in auctions before so this will be no different.

Re: MIA Bracelet "Hobo 27"

I am learning more about the base history. I have found a website for NC MD'ers that showed protected/eligible areas. I have come close to one area and will stay off base from now on.

Here is the website: http://gis.ncdcr.gov/hpoweb/

Maysville and areas north would be good. Let me know if you head up there and I will tag along.

Re: MIA Bracelet "Hobo 27"

Just some follow up that I have found on http://www.miafacts.org

To quote the website:

In April 1990 a U.S. team in Vietnam located a crash site with
material consistent with that of an A-1E, but no personal artifacts
were found. Local witnesses were unable to provide any
information. A U.S. team located information in the records of
People's Army Military Region 4 indicating that a U.S. pilot died
in a crash on the date. The place and time correlated to Tatum's
loss incident, but the pilot's name was not available.

Re: MIA Bracelet "Hobo 27" *Update*

Here is a link with the story of his final mission. It says he bailed out.

http://www.angelfire.com/id2/Silas/pow-mia/tennessee/mia5.html

Good post. I remember POW bracelets when I was a kid but I never owned/wore one.

I found another post on the POW site from a woman near Syracuse who wore a Lawrence B. Tatum POW bracelet in the 60's. She posted in 2006 also looking for family.

I am going to contact the USMA tomorrow. I am sure his parents are long gone, but maybe he had a sister. I have not given up.

Re: MIA Bracelet "Hobo 27" *Update* Contact with daughter made

I have an update. I got an email today from Col Tatum's daughter and just got off the phone with her. She saw my posting on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund website. She was 8 when he went overseas and 9 when he was listed MIA. The amazing thing is that she lives about 2 1/2 hours from me right here in NC!! Right now I am looking at driving up there Friday after work to give her the MIA bracelet. I will keep you all posted!

Re: MIA Bracelet "Hobo 27" *Update* Contact with daughter made

Great story. Keep us informed. I grew up on base in Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point in the late 60's and early 70's, and everybody wore POW Bracelets back then. My dad did two tours in Vietnam Nam as well as most of my class mates father's. This story brings back memories close to home.
