Went out this morning to a new site,my parent's mailman has a cabin that was built in 1842.He was on his route so I only stayed for a short time,haven't even met the guy yet so I want to go back later when everything is settled...property line's,where,what etc...Found a lot of whatzit's,iron junk and a buckle of some kind,no idea.Also found this military citation that I can't put a finger on.Tried to look it up but the closest I could get was a Vietnam Gallantry Citation,the cloth backing is gone so I can't pinpoint it...Any idea's.Thank's and HH!!

Nice finds civil. I hope someone can help you identify that citation,but like you said it may be difficult without the ribbon .That cabin sure sounds like a promising site.Best of luck to you. HH!

Impossible to tell what that military ribbon might have been without the ribbon cloth, but I beliver the oak leaf on top of where the ribbon would have been indicates that the citation was awarded (earned) multiple times. Great find, and I like that buckle too!

I think that would have had a solid blue ribbon. Its the Organization Citation, renamed the Distinguished Unit Badge during WWII, but I've also heard it called the "unit citation". But I think the ribbon was always blue. But thats all I've got for now... Oh, but nice find! Update- cr*p, I'm wrong, there were other varieties...

Civil,

your ribbon could be what you say.

The fabric may have rotted away.

Criteria: a. U.S. Military units were individually cited for award of the Republic of Vietnam (RVN) Gallantry Cross; however, the Vietnamese Government issued the award to all units subordinate to Military Assistance Command (MACV) during the period 8 February 1962 and 28 March 1973 and to U.S. Army Vietnam and its subordinate units for the period 20 July 1965 to 28 March 1973. This permits all personnel who served in Vietnam to wear the RVN Gallantry Cross unit citation.

The ribbon is 1 3/8 inches wide and consists of the following stripes: 3/8 inch Old Glory Red 67156; center 5/8 inch Golden Yellow 67104 with 16 strands of Old Glory Red; and 3/8 inch Old Glory Red.
Only one emblem (with palm) will be worn regardless of the number of times the unit was awarded the RVN Gallantry Cross. The Army initially authorized the wear of a fourragere by letter AGPB-AC, Subject: Wear of Vietnamese Unit Awards by U.S. Army Personnel, dated 11 February 1969, for units which had been awarded the RVN Gallantry Cross with palm on two or more occasions. Department of the Army message 111030Z April 1974, established the policy that only one emblem was authorized, thus precluding the wear of the Vietnamese fourrageres which represented multiple awards.

Civil,

what nhbenz said could also apply.

ARMY/AIR FORCE PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATION (BLUE)
ARMY MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION (RED)

I'm not sure if these are be issued with a palm, second award;
but could be.

have a good un......

Civil,

Nice finds, like that buckle...I agree with you & Sherman on the citation. Oak leaf clusters are shaped different.
