Millions in Silver Coins Dumped in Manila Bay to Keep it from the Japanese

Just thought I would start this thread on the dumping of US coin into Manila Bay to during WW2 to keep it from falling into Japanese hands. Iā€™m interested if the story of this event is based on fact and if so was it ever recoveredā€¦just want to hear everyoneā€™s thoughts on it.. Googled it, and am just posting the first reference I found on it.

SWR where are you? Yes, this is true, also the Japanese used American prisoners of War to dive and recover quite a bit of them. The same applied to Guam, but of a far lessor quantity.

Yes I have heard of this hoard, but I also have heard that either a bit has been recovered and/or that as seawater corrodes silver they ended up losing lots of their great appeal. As a result there is a large quantity of older date silver pesos that are apparently hard to come by.
