If it's over 50 years old, why doesn't the state confiscate it?

That's a great question S6, and I am sure if we were in FL then I would be expecting the authorities to be knocking on the door any day now. These pieces of china and bottles are considered discarded items and don't really have any archaeological significance so we are left alone. Now that's not to say that there are not bureaucrats that would like to take anything of any value that comes up from the bottom, but they haven't won that battle yet.
A few weeks ago, when the young man that found the bottle of beer and someone from the museum said that they could confiscate it, they were incorrect. If it were from a shipwreck then yes, because where we live a shipwreck policy similar to the UNESCO's policies on shipwreck preservation has been adopted.......Madness, pure madness. Nothing we can do about that now so all our finds from here on in will only come from non shipwreck sites. (nudge, nudge, wink, wink).
