Hi Folks,

I am a total newbie to Metal detecting, but living here there I can see some opportunity.
I have $1500 - $2500 to spend and I am pretty much decided on Minelab Excalibur II but any advice would be appreciated.
The machine will only be used while scuba diving, would this be my best choice or should I go for a PI machine? How about Aquascan?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Depends on the type of site and how much iron and other trash you will encounter. Fairly clean a PI is ok, not so clean it can be a nightmare. If you plan to go many different types of places get the Excal.

You can get an Excal and a Whites dual field PI with your $2500.00 budget. Now you have the best of both worlds.

Aquascan are great machines........but not for the the small stuff.... they are perfect to locate lost ships and other massive irons burried underwater!

If you are looking for that type of detection, take a look to Ebinger also!

If your main interest is small targets: CTX and excalibur are designed for you.
