There is a European form of flintknapping called Levellois. A core is prepared and a flake is detached so that the tip of the flake becomes the point with no retouch. This type of knapping is not known from the US. However, I think the OPs point was made from a random flake detachment that just happened to have the correct shape to make a Levellois style point. All the knapper had to do was chip a base onto the flake.
